Ramadhan desserts ( part 19)
Yesterday @ en-naeem, the imam started the terawih with surah al-anfal. I am compelled to discuss about some of the first verses of this surah as an admonishment for myself and self-rectification and a yardstick for us to measure our iman; has our iman reached the level which is required by Him or not. These 2nd & 3rd verses of this surah explain clearly the characteristics of a real believer (mukmin) and may Allah swt forgives us for our shortcomings. The verses are:
Those only are believers whose hearts become full of fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His ayats are recited to them they increase them in faith, and in their Lord do they trust.
Those who keep up prayer and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them.
In summary, there are 5 main characteristics of a mukmin mentioned in these 2 verses. They are:
hearts become full of fear when Allah is mentioned
Subhannallah this is a great characteristic which many of us especially myself are lacking of. For example, how many of us when are busy doing our own things when we heard the call of prayer have our hearts trembled? Some of us are walking or working by the mosque and suddenly heard the azan, do we stop and haste to solat or we continue with our own petty things as though the words 'Allah is the Greatest' is nothing and have no any effect in our little hearts? The companions of the prophet saw when they heard the name of Allah being mentioned in azan, they will stop their works and will hasten to prayers. Some will became pale
In awe and reverence to His name.
